Tweet Like Your Salvation Depends on It

The recent Vatican offer of online credit toward getting into Heaven (@pontifex__ln)may be a sign of their concern with the dwindling influence of the Catholic Church but it’s also a testament to just how important social media has become. It doesn’t matter if you are a part-time blogger, a small business or a huge corporation – you have a brand. And if you have a brand with any hope of growing it, you cannot ignore the opportunity to do so through  social media.

Since humans at large will rarely do something without getting something in return and since you probably can’t promise a pillowly eternity with any conviction, consider incentivizing new followers by giving them access to:

  • Special offers – Why would I read your blog over the other 20 I subscribe to?
  • Contests – Tweet clues for a prize and watch the word spread.
  • Coupons/Promo codes – Using the word “free” can’t is better than a lousy 10% off, even if it’s a buy one-get one offer.
  • Rewards – Think frequent tweeter points.
